On November 20, 2005, we were surprised to see two "thumbs" peaking out
of the bulbs of our amaryllis plants, which were still located in the back yard,
supposedly still in their dormant period. We brought all of the plants inside.
The following pictures show the development of all of our plants and flowers
that occurred during late November and December, 2005, and January, 2006.
November 21 - Here you can see the two new "thumbs" that are growing.
Left: On November 26, we noticed two new "thumbs" coming from a third pot.
Right: The two original "thumbs" are now tall stems. We now have four stems growing.
These photos taken on December 6, show the progress of the
four stems. Flowers are starting to open on two of them.
Left: The flowers as of December 9. Right: The flowers on two stems were
in full bloom on December 11. Note a fifth stem at the bottom of this photo!
Left: We also notice a new sixth "thumb" in a fourth pot on December 11th.
Right: Then, on December 13th, we notice a seventh "thumb" growing.
Left: December 13th - The third and fourth stems are starting to blossom.
Right: All of the beautiful flowers as of December 16th.
The progress of stems 6 and 7 on December 16th (left)
and on December 17th (right). They're growing fast!
Left: December 17 - the flowers on stems 3 and 4 are now beautiful, while those
on the first two stems are starting to wilt. Right: December 24 - Stem 5
is getting taller while all of the flowers are now wilting away.
Left: Stems 6 and 7 as of December 24th. Right: December 27 -
Stem 5 begins to flower; stems 6 and 7 grow taller.
You can see some of the old flowers dangling from dead stems.
Left: December 30 - flowers on stem 5 with those from stem 6 in the background.
Right: January 1, 2006 - flowers on stem 5. We only got three on this one.
Flowers from stems 6 and 7 can be seen in the background. All of
the old stems and flowers have been removed.
Left: January 1 - Close up of flowers on stems 6 and 7, with stem 5 on the right.
Right: January 1 - Look what we found yesterday... stem 8!
It's growing from the same bulb as stems 6 and 7.
January 2 - All of the flowers are in bloom.
Left: January 2 - Close-up of the newest flowers
Right: January 4 - View of all the flowers
Left: January 5 (Larry's Birthday) - look at stem 8 now! (Last day for Christmas lights.)
Right: January 11 - Six days later, the stem is much taller and the old flowers are fading.
January 19 - Left: Close up of flowers on stem 8.
Right: Wider shot - all of the old flowers are dead now.

Grand total: 8 stems and 30 flowers... a record!
